Feature | An interview with Ellacopter

So if you weren’t aware a dope new project hit Soundcloud going by the name of Ellacopter + shit was real ambiguous but thanks to Trade Voorhees + DJ OMB (the dudes behind Ellacopter) we can shine a lil light on the project as well as the newly announced collective with our interview below…

How did the whole ellacopter concept come about?

DJ OMB: had a dream that led to the creation of ellacopter. Random shit. Really random, because this shit really can’t be explained.  So let’s just blame social injustices and weed.  And strippers.

Trade Voorhees: I thought it was about elephants and helicopters….

What influences you as an artist?

OMB: Why does a fisherman fish? In long analysis of this, one would say that the fish caught by fisherman is a direct reflection of him. With projecting a reflection of yourself you give off an energy. Certain people, that are receptive to the energy you are projecting, will be influenced to know it, in theory, as the fish.  So with closer look into the question; a fisherman fishes to give. 

TV: …And we fuck with Snoop Dogg.

Ellacopter. A new name, a new sound… what can the public expect from you two?

OMB: Some music to move you and to move you.

TV: If a helicopter crashed into an elephant it’d create this huge fucking mess.Ellacopter has dynamic range far beyond any of my usual music. We would sit down and write more than just lyrics. Ideas. Like two words on a piece of paper virtually transformed into this fucking two-minute song. I feel like Ellacopter can be anything. It can turn into anything. It can become anything like The Thing with Kurt Russell. 

Who handled the production side of the project?

OMB: Trade “god bless the beats” Voorhees

TV: He was the director/screenwriter. I just worked as a secondary screenwriter…He was the door. I was the lock. The listeners have the key to it. 

You’re both from Las Vegas right? How has it inspired your sound?

OMB: It’s the vibe. Transient 

TV: Vegas is Ellacopter. Anything goes. 

Did you approach the project as an introduction or because Trade alone has an expansive back catalogue?

OMB: Neither. 

TV: It’s just Ellacopter. 

Have you guys got any plans for the future, musically? A project or tour?

OMB: Another project. Coming soon.

TV: ELLACOPTER BOOTY BASS. ELLACOPTER BOOTY SHORTS. WHO KNOWS?!

OMB: Get that ellacopter project!
